How do I transfer my website domain registration to a new web host?

Here%26#039;s my predicament: I have a website that I have hosted at VistaPages. (http://www.vistapages.com) Recently, their server crashed and erased all the files for my website. So I want to switch to a new web host. In order to do so my domain has to be unlocked at VistaPages. Unfortunately, no one answers the phone or e-mail at VistaPages, and the guy on their LiveChat support will not give me another contact number or my username/password (which I%26#039;ve lost and they won%26#039;t send me via e-mail despite many requests). So what can I do here? Thanks for any helpful ideas.

Hey,

if you own the domain name ie you personally paid for it then a good host will sort out the transfer and contact them on your behalf.

This happened to me to when I used a %26#039;free%26#039; deal, but I found www.sdhinternet.co.uk

They dealt with everything! They transferred it for me, spoke to the other company who held my name and then they helped me to set up my new site too. They have 24/7 support.

You will love the cost - because it is CHEAP!

鎷?.99 a month!

Thats all!

For this you get:

200mb Storage Space

500mb Bandwidth

10 Pop3 Emails

10 Auto responders

Front Page Extensions :

CGI ,PHP ,ASP ,SSI

Unix Platform,Custom Error Docs ,Online Control Panel

99% Uptime ,24/7 Support

And this is their basic option!

They are an absolute God send, I knew very little about building websites or php when I first started, but they have helped me every step of the way! And the 24/7 support is really 24/7 - I can get hold of them when I need to all hours of the day or night.

Check all of your old emails in case your username and password is buried in there somewhere. If you own it, they cant stop you from moving it. Is your website a commercial one? Do you make money from it? You could send them another email/ phone them telling them that they have caused you loss of earnings and that if they do not release your domain immediatley you will seek further action against them. Do it in a polite manner, without resorting to swearing or insults as most companies will ignore these emails.

Good luck to you,

kelly.

If indeed the domain name is %26quot;locked%26quot; at vistapages then that most likely means they are your domain name registrar as well as your web host. If they are the administrative contact for your domain name, they essentially own that domain name. They got you. If you are the admin contact for the domain name, you will have access to log in to the domain name management area and %26quot;unlock%26quot; the domain name so that it may be transferred or at least the nameservers changed to point to a different web host.

To continue, I recommend to start with finding a good web host. One that will answer all of your questions and is trustworthy. Stay away from deals that seem %26quot;too good to be true%26quot; as they always are. I personally like HostNed. Been using them for years and highly recommend them. My brother is a very picky old-school web professional and I convinced him to change to HostNed and he has been very happy with them as well (that%26#039;s saying a lot!) HostNed has awesome support and very easy on the wallet.

Other Replys:look at

They list the top 10 (or so) web hosting companies. I%26#039;d probably go with startlogic or bluehost
