What is the most user-friendly, easiest software to use to create my own Web site?

I want to create a Web site that chronicles my life...but not a blog. I%26#039;d use words, lots of photos, documents, etc. I%26#039;m looking for either a Web hosting company that has very easy software to build a site or purchasable software that I can use and then load onto an existing hosting firm. I have no Web site design or HTML experience. This isn%26#039;t for day-to-day postings but a general document (hence, not a blog) I also want to ensure that the Web site can stay up indefinitely and not go down because the hosting company is sold or goes out of business. What is my best option?

What is the most user-friendly, easiest software to use to create my own Web site?

What is the most user-friendly, easiest software to use to create my own Web site?

i don%26#039;t know much but freewebs is very easy to use and might be helpful

its not complicated and its nice

there is tripod.com u can try but i haven%26#039;t so i don%26#039;t know much

Other Replys:There are 2 things I would recommend. If you%26#039;re interested in using softoware to develop your site, Frontpage is very easy. You can pretty much point and click to get your website going. Another options, is if you are Word savy, create your page in word and then save it as html.

The second would be to use the tools that Yahoo offers on their free websites. You can design a very simple page and then use Frontpage to make it better and/or bigger.

I love CoffeeCup, but it%26#039;s not very intuative for a beginner.

Other Replys:the best hosting companies would be like:

www.godaddy.com

www.bravehost.com

these are trusted websites, and they are even on the TV.

if you want a website creator(also called HTML editor),

you should definitely try the microsoft office frontpage.

or, you can try the CoffeeCup editor.

REMEMBER, as you want them to be, none of these programs require the knownledge of any HTML. they%26#039;re really easy. if you want free programs, go to sourceforge.net and search for an HTML editor. everything is free there.

A TIP FOR YOU:

i know that you want a website, not a blog, but you should consider this: there is a website called www.dot.tk.

it offers you free domains. this is no joke. but you should already have a page, so when you signup for a domain, it automatically redirects the visitors to the page you already have. so you might wanna create a page on googlepages.com and redirect it to dot.tk. then your website would be like:

www.mypage.tk

try my website--its created on googlepages, and redirects on dot.tk. also, googlepages has a good HTML editor.

if you have a gmail or google account, create a page here at

googlepages.com/login

Important. Web design pricing??

my buddy does web design for websites but theyres alot of people wanting him to do theyre sites and he wanted to know a good price to charge keep in mind the web hosting itself is 100 dollars. He done them from 175 to 400 and up but he wants a set price. Thanks.

Important. Web design pricing??

Depends on a your talent, and what your customers are looking for.

Basic HTML (That is static page(s) ) , a plain site with 5-10 page(s) probably will run $200~$300 , minimal graphics

Custom Graphics + HTML is more in the neighborhood of $700-$800

Dynamic website (Something that needs to generate pages on the fly) this will require programming experience in ASP , PHP or CFM and runs for $1000+

It also depends on your customers expectations.what they are looking for, their budget etc.

No real web design firms who do this for a living charge anything less than $500 unless they are offshore...

Important. Web design pricing??

do it in minimal charges so that bees keep on sticking, coz there%26#039;;s a lot of competition in the market

If this is upto your expectations dont hesitate to choose it as best answer, this encourages me to help you people out......

For further queries email at kooldrhunk@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance..........

Other Replys:First of all it depends what type of coding he does, is it dynamic or static coding. So php or just html. Then it%26#039;s how good he is at it. Then it%26#039;s what type of sites they are, business or personal. Then it%26#039;s whether he is continueing support for them or just delivering and dropping.

Lot%26#039;s of variables and anyway, it%26#039;s best to work per hour. $175? Don%26#039;t devalue the market, some of us earn our bread from this trade!

Other Replys:I would suggest changing hosts.

How do I get yahoo to sponsor my bilingual web design class?

I am going to teach a web design class for bilingual small business and non bilingual small biz....using yahoo site builder tools and getting these biz to use yahoo web hosting . Plus a bilingual web design class for high school students with (the Gear Up program).

How do I get yahoo to sponsor my bilingual web design class?

Need to design that webpage in NVU or Mozilla, as you haven%26#039;t yet chosen a hosting server, and 61.5% of all Internet host servers run GNU/Linux or BSD!

Front Page will work, for $$$, but, why limit yourself to an expensive solution that has huge vulnerabilities, loves the 150,000 Microsoft virus definitions, can be warped and broken, by script kiddies?

Hosting isn%26#039;t free, except for lots of things like BLOGS, which get banner ads and pop-ups, all over them! Host it yourself, for %26lt;$6 per month, (offers right now are $2.95 per month!) on Yahoo (runs on BSD Servers, VERY fast!), or any

of the FREE BLOG servers (most run Linux or BSD, so are stable).

How do I get yahoo to sponsor my bilingual web design class?

you cant - they are not interested - to build a professional web site, a professional needs to do it. Not some goof with a copy of frontpage.

Can I use my personal computer space as a web space for my website?

I have a domain registered. I am creating a website which requires a lot of space say about 1GB to 3GB. To use web space provided by Web Hosting companies I found is very costly for such huge amount of data. So is it possible to use my personal computer space as a web space for my website. I am having Windows XP and Windows 2000 Professional as Operating Systems. I am using Java, JSP, Servlets, MySQL in this website.

Can I use my personal computer space as a web space for my website?

There shouldn%26#039;t be a problem so long as u have a static IP and a web server application like IIS, apache and so on. Since you%26#039;re using java, JSP, you can try apache tomcat. Oh and if you don%26#039;t have a static IP you can go to places like no-ip.com where you can have an url pointed to your IP and the information gets updated thru a software on your computer, so others can access your site thru yourname.no-ip.com. maybe you can point your domain to this url too.

Can I use my personal computer space as a web space for my website?

Try Apache server and you could host website on your computer.

But if you create website and if you like to run your website 24/7 from your computer, you will have to switch on your computer all the time and it may damage your computer in the long run.

If you intend to create a few websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website), go for multiple web hosting where you could handle your websites in one account.

Visit Following webhosting , they are quite good.

High servers uptime and speed customer support.

Other Replys:I have used 1%26amp;1 for ages now. I%26#039;ve used a lot of other hosting companies including GoDaddy but haven%26#039;t found anything as good as 1%26amp;1. All their packages come with FTP access.

Now i%26#039;ll tell you why...

They offer outstanding value for money. Even their basic home package comes packed with features and even includes a free domain name!!!

They are reliable and my sites haven%26#039;t gone down once in the whole time i%26#039;ve used them. I own over 20 domains and reliability is very important to me.

Their customer service is excellent. Everytime i%26#039;ve dealt with someone they%26#039;ve been polite, helpful and honest.

For your needs I would go with the 1%26amp;1 home package. You can easily upgrade later. To be honest the basic home package comes with more features than you will probably need (but they%26#039;re there if you need them).

Order through this link and you should get a 25% discount....

Do I have to renew my domain name with direct nic if you are hosting my site?

Several years ago I transferred my web hosting to yahoo hosting from direct nic. It is time to renew my domain name. Do I have to renew my domain name with them to keep my domain name active? My domain name is alice-elizabeth.com

Do I have to renew my domain name with direct nic if you are hosting my site?

Hi

Hosting is different from domain registration. You defintely need to renew your domain name with your domain registration provider. I think from the details below, your domain name will get expired on May 22 2006. So renew the domain asap.

I need a web host that will handle PHP and MySql fast and reliably?

I am building a very media rich site for a local church. There are several databases and dozens of PHP scripts that will be running.

I have seen many posts about slow PHP and MySql processing and want to avoid any problems.

Currently the church pays $20 for hosting (with very little features). I would like to keep the price close to that, but will be willing to bump up to $50 if it means that the PHP and MySQL execute fast and reliably.

Any Suggestions?

I need a web host that will handle PHP and MySql fast and reliably?

My church website is over at HostGator and we%26#039;ve been quite happy with the site responsiveness... and we%26#039;re using a full-featured memory-hungry content PHP/MySQL based content management system (Drupal).

Here%26#039;s our site...

And here%26#039;s my review of some of the features that HostGator offers (and what to look for in a host, besides just bandwidth and storage space)...

Yahoo small business hosting service

Other Replys:I am using web hosting from http://aplis.net/ you can also give them a try. First month free.

Other Replys:For $50, you can get virtual dedicated server which should be better than the shared hosting you are using now. I would be concerned about disk space and bandwidth.

Other Replys:Over the years i use http://www.SpaceTitan.com Im running several sites with PHP and MySQL so why dont you give it a try?

Other Replys:How many databases your website has at present?

I would like to recommend My Webbie Hosting%26#039;s Corporate and Enterprise plans. These plans include 50 and Unlimited MySQL databases, respectively, and 30+ preinstalled PHP scripts. They guarantee 30-day money back in case you become dissatisfied with their service.

However, Corporate Plan costs $8.95/month while Enterprise Plan costs $12.95/month.

Other Replys:Fast PHP and MySQL?

Go with HostGator.

Extremely reliable and fast.

Other Replys:I got a list at below resources. very affordable, less complain and among the top web hosting in the world. Problem with slow loading usually happen to reseller and small hosting company. they don%26#039;t have the capacity to handle a lot of load but they have to do that because if they don%26#039;t offer their package like that no one would host with them. but when a lot of people hosting with them guess what happen.

What is good web host/registar for a social network?

i am trying to start a social network online but i have only seen sites wanting 8k and more to build your site, there has to be a site where you can use their software and hosting capabilites for a small fee, plz help

What is good web host/registar for a social network?

You%26#039;ll want a host with a lot of bandwidth and disk space.

I%26#039;d suggest SLHost, I%26#039;ve been using them for years for some community-based sites with the shared Level 2 package. Check out the shared packages here: http://slhost.com/shared_solutions.html

Once you start getting a lot of traffic on your site and over-running your bandwidth you can just buy more from them or upgrade your package. It%26#039;s pretty painless and cheap.

As far as a registar, use whatever is cheapest. GoDaddy.com with code SLASH will save you 10%, code SLASH3 will get you a .com domain for $6.95.

How hard is it to create a web server?

I have a few computers sitting around that do little more than serve music. I create several web sites a month that will only receive a few hits a day. Is it relatively simple and cost effective to create a web hosting server that uses PHP? If so, can you point me to a link that would show me how to set it up.

How hard is it to create a web server?

It is actually pretty easy. As long as you have an old PC lying around (or you can even use your main PC, for low-bandwidth sites), check out WAMP -- http://www.wampserver.com/ -- it stands for Windows Apache MySQL PHP. It comes with Apache web server, MySQL database, and PHP. If you prefer not to use Windows, LAMP (Linux, MySQL, PHP) and MAMP (Mac, MySQL, PHP) are also available. I use WAMP, and it%26#039;s pretty easy, and quick to set up. Good luck!

How hard is it to create a web server?

It%26#039;s simple and very cheap. Your server wouldn%26#039;t need very much to run (an old PC sitting in the closet would work) and once it%26#039;s up, it%26#039;s very minimal to maintain. It would definitely save you money if you plan on running a website(s) for years.

Basically, you would need what an actual webhost would have. A database (MySQL or similar), file storage, active directory (if you plan on implementing users for forums, etc) and possibly a fast internet connection. I run mine myself and it saves me so much money by not paying a webhost every month.

What is the best web host for web businesses like Ebay?

I am planning on launching an online trading post type of site. The site will have very dynamic and interactive features such as search capabilities, image uploading, member login, and member inventory. I do know what type of web features are required to support those features. I will most likely need a lot of server space, as I am expecting a large user base of around 10,000. What is the best webhost that can meet those requirements? What is the best domain registration site?

What is the best web host for web businesses like Ebay?

It would be best to have your own server. You may need to do lots of backing up (data and software), updating, ... It would get very expensive to get server space from other providers. I recommend setting up a server that you own and maybe paying somebody to maintain it.

As fat as domain registration goes, yahoo offers a good deal (domains.yahoo.com).

Inexpensive but reliable web host...does it exist?

I have 2 small business websites at the moment...I pay $30 a year for each. They both started out with 50MB storage %26amp; 1000MB transfer. On one of them, I bought 50MB more storage. Domain was/is free.

However, I am constantly having problems with them. The websites will go down during peak hours for no reason, mail service is sporadic, I have deleted 3/4 of my website because they say I keep going over my limit...this is on the 100MB one.

I feel like I should look for a new one, but I really can%26#039;t spend much more than $60 total a year for the two together. I know you can get multiple domains now under some hosting plans, but by the time you pay for the extra domains, it%26#039;s not cheap anymore.

Where can I find something reasonable? Having all the bells %26amp; whistles is not a priority, but would be nice.

Inexpensive but reliable web host...does it exist?

I use webhostingbuzz.com - it%26#039;s reliable, and for $3/month you get 30GB space and 1000GB transfer/month. That%26#039;s a lot better than your current one!

What%26#039;s more, you can host multiple domains on the one hosting account. (Remember, domains themselves should only cost you $9 - e.g. at namecheap.com).

So, if there%26#039;s enough space on that one account, you should only have to pay $36/year or $54 if you register for two years.

I%26#039;ve been with WHB for a while now, and they seem to be for real. Good luck!!

Inexpensive but reliable web host...does it exist?

DO NOT go thru this company! They don%26#039;t do domain transfers Report It

Other Replys:I did bravenet for a year, price vs what you get was not to bad for the mid range paid hosting

Other Replys:Really a case of you get what you pay for. $30/year for hosting? If it is ever up you are lucky.

I use Lunarpages - has never been down, and I run 5 sites at a time off one account. More expensive than what you are paying, and worth it

Nothing that costs $30/year is going to be any good

Other Replys:I have around 25 sites hosted with CrystalTech.com. They have simple HTML plans for $2.95/month. They also have a 99.5% uptime percentage, great support and an easy to use control panel.

Good luck!

Other Replys:Yahoo! Web hosting is great! I love it, and will never use anyone else.

Other Replys:http://www.JuicyHosting.com is under $5/month, and would let you host both under the same account. they have a great service, http://www.LocoDomains.com is also very good

Other Replys:If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months%26#039; time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

Best webhosting for a web idiot???

I want to have an online gallery to showcase my artwork. But the thing is I don%26#039;t know how to build a website? Can anyone recommend me a good web hosting sites that also provide a step by step website building tools for beginners? I know about Yahoo but just wanna make a comparison...

Best webhosting for a web idiot???

I had the same problem. i just put together a art web site. I think your web hosting is not the problem but the software. I used Microsoft publisher in office. I has a web page wizard that puts together a template website pages with a gallery. I f you know Microsoft word you can use this. It was real easy for me. the program put together the website with its own blank pictures and generic words and I just replaced them with mine.I just loaded them to my angelfire website. you can check it out here www.angelfire.com/comics/spidersdream/

Best webhosting for a web idiot???

godaddy.com

search for like website domian but i like yahoo

Other Replys:freewebs.com would be great. It%26#039;s easy to use, it make people think you%26#039;ve been making webs for years and most important it%26#039;s free!

Other Replys:I always suggest the web host I have now as I did a lot of research on them prior to going with them and have referred any interested friends as well as clients to them. I have never had any complaints from even the not computer literate ones about the service they provided. They are currently hosting over 200,000 domain names so they are definitely reputable. Their middle of the road plan is amazing for the price. You can host several separate websites on one account and have multiple databases as well. You will need at least a single database in order to support any online bulletin boards, Forums, Blogs, commercial store software for e-commerce.

You can see their offering on my links page at http://www.lakeareawebs.com/links.html

You should also do a google search on different photo gallery applications as well. I am sure you will find many of them are free and most will be just copy and paste installations in general. Learning the basics of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL %26amp; PHP would be invaluable but for a novice it may seem overwhelming

Other Replys:Try Web.com

Their hosting comes with a site builder.

www.web.com

Other Replys:If you are currently a paid Internet subscriber, you are entitled to a %26quot;homepage%26quot; which often contains simple navigation and editing tools. And if you use the Netscape browser, the built-in Composer feature is a superior HTML authoring tool. You can easily generate a full-blown website as a Homepage.

Nevertheless, the %26quot;homepage%26quot; URL is likely to be %26quot;http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscribe... name%26quot; and that URL can easily be overwritten via a redirection service, i.e., %26quot;mydomain.com%26quot; which allows you to link any registered domain name to %26quot;mask%26quot; another website. For example, should you type in the %26quot;domain name,%26quot; you will be immediately transported to the homepage and the hompage URL of http://homepage.earthlink.com/subscriber... a homepage URL which will be masked by the domain name. And the charge for the redirection service [even at godaddy.com] is normally FREE.

Here%26#039;s a demonstration: Type in the URL window: %26quot;www.pizzanextdoor.com%26quot; which will bring up their pizza website. Take note of the domain name. Then type in the URL window: %26quot;http://home.pacbell.net/vten/1a/pizzame... and you will see that this is the original homepage which is unmasked without the domain name.

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is to first set up a website and publish its domain name on major search directories such as Google.com, Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these search directories to provide them with goods and services. In a sense, these search directories are a very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage fail to contain %26quot;generic%26quot; keywords, then anyone using such %26quot;generic%26quot; queries will not be able to discover your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website, in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which, when observed and committed in designing of a website with placement of various critical metatags that can surely achieve a high search engine presence and increase Internet traffic to your website. These metatag strategies work well with published webpages at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based website, make sure to fill-in the property entries such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the Internet audience and their incoming setup. For example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages take too long to load up and therefore analog users will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple question, %26quot;Who%26#039;s my end user - is he on dialup or DSL?%26quot; And if you had to choose between these two users for maximum marketability, then select analog users since 80% of most resident users are still analog Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text, is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google and Yahoo and it begins with the %26quot;Title%26quot; metag which should consist of no more than 65 characters separated by commas. The %26quot;Title%26quot; should describe in generic terms, the goods and services, followed by a location from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state. The placement of a domain name which is not generic within the %26quot;Title%26quot; is not appropriate, unless your domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the %26quot;Description%26quot; which is usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which best describes one%26#039;s goods and services.

And the very last category - %26quot;Keywords%26quot; are also somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries which could be mistaken as %26quot;spamdexed entries%26quot; which is defined as the loading, and submission of repetitive words into a particular metatag category. %26quot;Spamdexing%26quot; when discovered on a webpage and reported to Google%26#039;s spamreport.com can result in the elimination of your website from their search directory.

Here%26#039;s an example of a very highly-placed website on Yahoo.com: Begin with the search query %26quot;pizza downtown los angeles.%26quot; It will bring up some 1.4 million+ websites as results. Check out where %26quot;Pizza Next Door%26quot; is ranked. It%26#039;s in the Top Five! Again, Pizza Next Door%26#039;s high web presence was achieved by proper web design and placement of relevant metatags according to Yahoo%26#039;s publication guidelines.

Good luck!

Other Replys:If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months%26#039; time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of %26quot;unlimited domains%26quot; and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). How to identify the OS of a web server?

I would like to find-out what server version the web hosting company I have my site on is using. Is there a web utility I can use to detect this?

How to identify the OS of a web server?

It is contained (to some extent) in the %26quot;Server%26quot; header of the HTTP response. Try http://web-sniffer.net to view the HTTP headers for a given URL.

How to identify the OS of a web server?

They usually let you know on their site, and you could always ask them yourself instead of going through the trouble of finding out..

Other Replys:Just go to the home page and do a CTRL U

Other Replys:The best way is to just ask your host.

However you do do this to test if you are on Windows or Linux

create a file and name it %26quot;test.asp%26quot;

and copy and paste the following code into the file

%26lt;%

Response.Write Request.ServerVariables (%26quot;SERVER_SOFTWARE%26quot;)

%%26gt;

and save it and upload it to your server

Then pull up the page by going to

http://www.YOURDOMAIN.com/test.asp

Now if you get an error, or you just see the same thing as above then you are very likely on LINUX. If the script works then it should display your windows version

I am looking for a web host.... How much space do you think I need? Best Webhosts?

I am creating a website for a dance studio... and I am looking at these packages at 1 and 1 host. I am not sure how much space I am going to need, but I am guessing that I don%26#039;t need much... should i buy the 1%26amp;1 home package or the 1%26amp;1 business package....

Hi,

before you tie yourself to 1%26amp;1, maybee you should check out hostmee.com, a very under rated web hosting company with great bonuses and i think youll love the price,

just a suggestion, ive been with them a while and their customer support is fantastic.

Other Replys:I have just started my own home based candle making business and I used godaddy.com for my website. I called customer service and they completely walked me thru what i would need and how to get it started. they also had very reasonable prices.

Other Replys:Try dreamhost http://dreamhost.pinologic.com to compare.

Other Replys:I have used 1%26amp;1 for ages now. I%26#039;ve used a lot of other hosting companies including GoDaddy but haven%26#039;t found anything as good as 1%26amp;1.

Can you help me learn more about my web stats for my website?

I am trying to learn more about web hosting and all the technical stuff in the frontend of the business. but I am a designer not a techie and have no idea where to start. So here are some things-

When I click on my web stats I get this info about each visitor- could you please decipher teh information (some of it is common sense...but what is hte HTTP code, explain the version...why does everything come up mozilla...?

%26quot;

/introscreen34.swf

Http Code: 200 Date: Jan 02 15:15:42 Http Version: HTTP/1.1 Size in Bytes: 722372

Referer: http://www.isolatedfilmproductions.com/

Why does IP information sometime show locations so different than the actual site of the page viewer- A friend looks up my site and his computer is in Iowa but the IP information says the viewer is in Texas? Can anyone explain this to me?

Can you help me learn more about my web stats for my website?

http code: 200 means - ok no problems, if this code was different e.g. 404 would mean error the file cannot be found, there are others

Some of the stuff like date and size in bytes is self-explanatory.

the referrer is where u came from to access the page, or in this case ur .swf flash file.

ur agent is ur browser followed by computer info

the IP address location is of the ISP not your physical computer location all those sharing the same ISP will have the same location.

Can you help me learn more about my web stats for my website?

IP addresses change frequently. this way the IP registry info also changes which results in incorrect location details.

if you want to track you site visotor details with up-to-date location details as well, you can try MaxCounter.com. I use their service on my site.

I tried to ftp my web page files but were rejected because some of them have spaces in the file name

Renaming the files is not practical since I have hundreds of them. Any suggestion? Or if you know off any Windows based web hosting sites?

Please help!

I tried to ftp my web page files but were rejected because some of them have spaces in the file names. Help!?

Try file namer freewares, they can easily rename several files with just one click...

I use ReNamer which is a small, yet very flexible file and folder renamer, that offers all the standard renaming procedures, including prefixes, suffixes, replacements, case changes as well as advanced options and support for Unicode file names. In addition, it can also remove brackets, add number sequences, remove digits or symbols and change file extensions. The program allows you to combine multiple renaming actions as a rule set, applying each action in logical sequence. Renamer supports 30 different meta fields, including EXIF, ID3 and others, that can be used as part of the new file name. Advanced users can use PascalScript to program their own renaming rules.

Find it here...;

I tried to ftp my web page files but were rejected because some of them have spaces in the file names. Help!?

the only way to fix it is to take out the spaces. while they have spaces they wont work, u%26#039;ll have to rename them all

Other Replys:I%26#039;m sorry to tell you this, but depending on to where you are trying to upload the files, you may have to rename them. I have encountered several situations in ftp and database operations where file names with spaces cause errors. The best practice I have found, and one that is widely used in industry, is to use an underscore (my_file_name) as a place holder wherever you would normally have a space. Even if you are able to get around renaming them now, I would do it eventually, otherwise you are likely to run into this problem again.

Other Replys:wrap the filename in quotes

Other Replys:From what I know, Some Hosting companies do not allow this, When I used Yahoo Hosting, I had to do a batch rename

Other Replys:You will always have trouble with spaces in file names. You should never use a space in a file name, especially on the internet. Many web hosts will not even allow them to open to view.

I want to start a web based business (website), what is the best way to approach this?

I want to start a website. Is there a way I can run the web hosting myself or would it be best to hire someone? If I have to hire someone, who is the best?

I want to start a web based business (website), what is the best way to approach this?

I think it depends on what kind of business you are interested in starting. Will you be selling something on-line (i.e. retailer) or will it be for information (possibly for a brick and mortar)?

IMO an on-line retail site would be more difficult to set up, but it is possible for you to run and host it. I use %26#039;DreamHost%26#039; which has the ability to host your site and set up retailer shopping carts.

An Information site will be easy, since all you have to do is create pages telling about your services, and include contact information - either an email or an on line form someone can fill out.

As for hiring someone, that will cost some money to create, design, and host. In addition you will need to go back to them from time to time in order to make changes. In NYC a freelancer can charge anywhere from $25/hr and up; plus hosting costs.

I want to start a web based business (website), what is the best way to approach this?

may I suggest something even esasier? All you have to do is sign up for something like this, and your web site is provided. Then get the URL out to as many as you can. I learned about the product because it actually is an excellent one and I use it myself. Now I just tell people where it is (as many as I can) and they come to me.

Other Replys:Are you looking to start your own biz with your own product or are you happy working as an affiliate? Personally I make (and can prove it!) several thousands a month working as an affiliate for different online affiliate programs. I have it all centralized at my main page ( Instant-Residual-Income.com ).If you would like a FREE 100% customizable website like that go to http://www.instant-residual-income.net and sign up today. this is how i started out . i had a product i wanted to sell on the web. but didn%26#039;t have alot of money, and was%26#039;nt to sure if i had a hit product, so i went to yahoo auctions, because you can sell your product on yahoo auctions for free, unlike ebay. and this will tell you if you have a product that people want and it%26#039;s no money out of your pocket. this was 5 months ago, now im making $500.00 to $600.00 every month, and this is just parttime,

go to yahoo auctions and put in rai_wood and hit enter

this is my free auction site

it%26#039;s free take advantag

I am working with a web design guy who I set up FTP access for but he now wants my user name and password to..

Yeah he needs the user name and password to upload the file to your web server.

Alex

I am working with a web design guy who I set up FTP access for but he now wants my user name and password to..

how else can he upload the files?

Other Replys:Yea...the web design guy needs access to pretty much everything. Make sure you trust them.

Other Replys:that sounds hinky, don%26#039;t give it to him, if he does something illegal under your user name and password they will get you not him!

Other Replys:Yes, he can upload the files though FTP, but he needs the control panel to create the database(probably MySQL database)

Other Replys:is the CMS for you or Himself ?

if it is for you then either he will need access to the control panel to set up the sql database

or

you will have to set one up and give him the database details

Other Replys:He is going to have to get access, but you can set up a different user for him. Or if you can%26#039;t ask your host to do it for you. Have it set up so that the new user can%26#039;t see your email and stuff, but can do the things he needs to do, like setting up the databases on your mysql server (or whatever).

Other Replys:It%26#039;s not out of the question, there are other ways though, depending on what your ISP offers.

If you have a good ISP with shell access, you may be able to provide him with ssh access instead of ftp. (files can be transferred using sftp) But, this depends on how your ISP is set up. (I actually prefer working with SSH over ftp) this is dangerous and may or may not involve giving him access to your email. (depends on where/how your ISP does things)

The other thing you can do is have the web person design everything on his/her development box and ship you the files, where you install them yourself. This is some-what technical and you may have to pay extra for tech support, but if you don%26#039;t want them to access your FTP settings, it may be a good idea.

Finally, there are %26quot;shell tools%26quot; that a person can use to access your account w/out your FTP password. This is kind of dangerous, but you could install it for him/her and then they could use that to upload stuff. (and change file permissions, etc..) depending on the nature of the project, this may take more time. (I%26#039;ve had to resort to this in some cases where I needed shell access on a host that doesn%26#039;t provide it)

Keep in mind, this person probably doesn%26#039;t want access to your account any more than you want them to have access. Logging in to someone elses account is really something a professional would prefer to avoid doing whenever possible.

In any event, one thing you absolutely MUST do is change your password BEFORE giving it to this person and then change it back when they%26#039;re done.

The trick is to change it before giving it to them.

Also, don%26#039;t send it through email - I%26#039;ve actually seen accounts get compromised by emailing passwords. This is was a serious problem for me, as it actually appeared as though I had compromised the system.

These days, I%26#039;ve opted a policy where I refuse to login to any account that has had its credentials emailed to me.

Change your password first and do NOT send passwords through email channels.

I%26#039;m looking for a photo management service (or software) that allows me to take advantage of my web hosting plan so that I can use the 2GB of space I%26#039;ve paid for (as opposed to like 20MB of free hosting). Any suggestions on what would organize the photos and save me the HTML time?

I need to start a web site?

If you are just getting started it is probably easiest to start with a blogging service. Here are a few of the most popular ones:

http://www.livejournal.com

http://www.blogger.com

http://www.wordpress.com

They all offer a number of features that allow you to customize the look and feel of your blog.

Other Replys:well, you could do a free blog in Blogger or in Wordpress. In Blogger you don`t need a domain or a hosting for begin.

Other Replys:Wordpress is great blogging software.

To get a domain and web hosting, you need to sign up with a web host. These run 7-10 dollars per month. Or you could just get a domain, which is about $10 per year.

I recommend Dreamhost. They%26#039;re a great service, who will give you more storage and bandwidth than you%26#039;ll ever need, in addition the support is great.

I%26#039;m currently building a website on... building web sites! So the thing is, I%26#039;m not done with it. But, I have made the page on Dream Host coupon codes, check it out:

mylosthighway.net/promo.php

Just don%26#039;t be too critical of the rest of the site content = D

%26lt;!-- ************************************* --%26gt;

Almost every web hosting site (well any good ones, at least. Not free ones) will let you post ads. I believe all you have to do for Adsense is to input a code, which I%26#039;m pretty sure you could do with Wordpress if you do it right.

Other Replys:you have to apply for google ads but if you buy a domain name then you are qualified in that regard.

Other Replys:For own domain you can try Microsoft Officelive Basic that it provides free domain and web hosting. However, there are limitations of making your own site like no uploading exiting site.

You may try using free webhosting service with subdomain and then upload the php Blog package to the hosting server.

For free webhosting service you can try

http://us.890m.com

For php Blog package you can go

http://www.opensourcescripts.com/dir/PHP...

Other Replys:You can find step by step guide on how to create a website at website like http://oktutorial.com/webdesign.htm

You can also earn from adsense, check website like http://earn.tk/ for more details.

Other Replys:Dear fiend, if you want to start a website I suggest you to purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

And any bad web hosting service would trouble you for a long period. At first, try to choose a professional service to get rid of the subsequent problems. And also please don閳ユ獩 trust dishonest claims like unlimited hosting space or unlimited bandwidth!

As an experienced webmaster I suggest BlueHost service which I閳ユ獡 sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting %26amp; I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

They are a Multi-awarded Web Hosting which offer a Full-featured service only $6.95 a month. Their service is really perfect and uptime.

You can go there through the address below:

http://bluehost-plan.atspace.com

Here I have copied and pasted its features from their website to view:

- Multi-awarded

- Free Domain Forever

- 600 Gigabyte Hosting Space

- 6,000 GIGS of Transfer

- Host UNLIMITED Domains (Support All Domain Names)

- 2,500 POP/Imap Email Accounts

- SSH (Secure Shell), SSL, FTP, Stats

- CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MySQL

- 2000/2002/2003 Front Page Extensions

- Free Site Builder

- 24/7 Superb/Responsive Sales/Support

- Free Search Engine Submission

Good Luck!

Other Replys:For web hosting, go with HostGator. Includes Wordpress plugin making it a breeze to start a blog.

If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don%26#039;t go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. Free web hosts usually put advertisements on your websites and it could be annoying.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months%26#039; time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukend...

They offer hosting of %26quot;unlimited domains%26quot; and you will get massive webspace of 1200000 MB (1200 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer %26quot;a free Domain Name%26quot; and installing service called %26quot;Fantastico%26quot;. Has anyone come accross this web host?

I tried to set up an account with www.happyhost.org, which is supposed to be a free hosting service.

They sent me an e-mail with password etc. I tried to log on and got a response indicating bad password. I tried several times and finally thought I would try %26#039;support%26#039;. %26#039;support%26#039; turned out to be a blank page. So I tried %26#039;faq%26#039;. %26#039;faq%26#039; read as follows:

%26quot;FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions.

Q: Are You sure ?

A: Yes of course i%26#039;m sure

Q: Why ?

A: Beacuse%26quot;

I noted that all their links were advertising - would you believe - various hosting services, but none of them free.

Does this seem like a scam to you? And they were carrying loads of ads by Google. Do Google never check on who they choose to advertise with?

Which hosting plan ( dedicated/reseller ) would you choose if you a web studio?

Why you would you choose reseller over dedicated and vice versa ?

Which hosting plan ( dedicated/reseller ) would you choose if you a web studio?

Personally? Neither. I don%26#039;t want the headache of having to deal with hosting problems. Instead, I just became an affiliate for my favorite web hosting company, and so in addition to my consulting fee, I get a nice hefty check for my sign-up bonus.

Plus, I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s socially responsible for a web designer to host the site as well. I know too many clients with horror stories... they weren%26#039;t happy with the design, or found out the fee was outrageous, or both, and ended up with their website being hijacked by someone who suddenly turned rude and obnoxious and threatening.

So, people looking to hire designers who might be reading this, take heed... go to the extra trouble to register your domain name yourself. Then sign up for web hosting yourself (again, separate companies). Go with the recommendation of your designer if they have one, but don%26#039;t give away the root password to the account. Assign the designer their own FTP password for uploading files.

Which hosting plan ( dedicated/reseller ) would you choose if you a web studio?

The names can mean different things with different hosting companies. I%26#039;d choose the plan that met my needs, regardless of what it was called.

(I host my own servers, so I don%26#039;t bother with what hosting companies call their plans. My only %26quot;hosted%26quot; site is one I fool around with, just to keep my knowledge of what a good hosting company is doing current. It%26#039;s much easier if you host your own server.)

Other Replys:If you have your own studio I would definatley go with a dedicated plan. A reseller plan is someone who works for a webhost company and is %26quot;reselling%26quot; the host%26#039;s plan to make a profit.

Alternatively, try startlogic%26#039;s %26quot;Pro Logic%26quot; plan. They%26#039;re a reputable company who has hit the 100,000 customer mark and offers features like 24/7 toll free support, free domain for life, moneyback guarantee etc. I%26#039;ve used them for a couple years now.

Why does XP rudely close my web page?

I recently upgraded to Windows XP and moved my web hosting over to Yahoo!. Since that time, weird things have been happening. When I go to my website, I see just the beginnings of it and it shuts down the page AND closes IE. This also happens when I try to open a page such as SiteBuilder from within Yahoo. I have looked closely at the security settings but I see nothing. All other pages and things appear to be functioning as normal. My site is viewable from other machines. Thank you for reading.

Can a meta search engine be hosted on regular web host account like of www.bluehost.com?

yes it can but you will need a database (mysql or SQL - check with your host) and to be honest I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s worth it because you will never make it big. No. You have to have some server-side language to do it.

No, PHP / MySQL works fine.

Other Replys:The most popular open-source and free forum sooftware runs on PHP, not ASP. And Linux, not Windows (though PHP will run on Windows too, if you%26#039;re a glutton for punishment).

Specifically, PHP-based forum products also normally require MySQL (to store the data), and Apache (to make clean, search-engine-friendly URLs with Apache%26#039;s mod_rewrite).

A shared hosting plan based on Linux will have all of these.

As to the actual PHP projects, the most popular forum-ONLY software is PHPBB.

However, I find that the functionality of the Drupal CMS (content managment system) is much nicer, in both features, extendability, elegance of design, and appearance of the themes. But don%26#039;t take my word for it. Check it out for yourself...

Finally, installing PHPBB or Drupal, or any number of other applications that can be adapted for forum use, like Joomla for example, are very easily installed on any web host that provides the Fantastico auto-installer. You can literally be up and running in just a few mouse clicks. My record is 7 minutes... and that was way back when I was still using a dial-up connection!

Other Replys:Once you have a domain name, I assume you also have a host? Two separate things, ya know. You should have an FTP address, userid, and password. Got those? Get%26#039;em!

Once you have those, got your .html or .htm files ready? Get%26#039;em.

The main one%26#039;s your index.htm. Some hosts (like Yahoo!) need the extension to be .html. Other hosts don%26#039;t mind if it%26#039;s .htm. Find out. Name accordingly. %26quot;index.htm%26quot; is the home page where your website calls arrive, but you already knew that, right?

Next, get an FTP program. Get ws_ftp or Filezilla or get Firefox and install its add-on named FireFTP. Open it up (whichever one or two or all three) you got and %26quot;set up an account%26quot; specifying a name for the account (any ol%26#039; name will do, like %26quot;Herbert Hoover%26quot;) and the host address (that%26#039;s the FTP address mentioned earlier and the userid and password. Check %26quot;remember password%26quot; to save yourself some grief and retyping later. Click Connect. Select Your folder and the host%26#039;s folder (actually, the host%26#039;s folder is already over there...) See, you%26#039;ve got a divided window in view, with a view of your folder in one and the host%26#039;s mostly empty, for now, folder, in the other. Select files in your folder, and there%26#039;s likely an arrow, click it, and copies of files will be transferred to the host.

Dah you go. When you%26#039;re happy, Disconnect. Exit

Good luck!

Other Replys:There are two principal steps to make your website on the internet and registering/booking a domain name is the number one.

A domain name builds the address of your site and can end in . com, . net, . org, . info, . us, . biz, . tv and further.

Directly afer you have registered your name, you will pick a web host (2nd step). The web host is the guts of any website as this is where you build and publish your pages, build purchase fillings, insert service and preserve your site.

How to Select the Best Domain Name

If being in the foremost search engines (Yahoo!, MSN, etc. ) is tremendously essential to you, I extremely urge you index a name that includes your major keywords as an alternative of your enterprise name.

Imagine about it. The normal visitor searches by theme, not by correct name. So why it may seem cool to have a name corresponding Jack%26#039;sLinux. com, you%26#039;ll wish to select a name that contains keywords that your intended spectators would likely use when they search.

So with that in thinking, a name like Begin-using-Linux. com would be much enhanced than Jack%26#039;sLinux. com. Sure, you can still list your corporation name on your web pages, but I think it%26#039;s more important to make sure the domain name consist of your eminent %26quot;search friendly%26quot; keywords if you want to receive traffic from all over.

No doubt, you can still register your firm name on the web site some area, but your domain name will consist of all the significant keywords you%26#039;ll want to be found with.

I am with a web host where i get 200 gigs a month. I just noticed in my cpanel i am getting 190 petabytes.?

Well, there are 1000 gigabytes in a terabyte (1024 when talking about storage), and 1000 (1024) terabytes in a petabyte. So basically, 190 petabytes is 190,000,000 gigabytes. Either you%26#039;re hosting a *very* popular site or the hosting company made a mistake. ;)

What the easiest way to create a web page using Adobe products for a newbie?

Would like to know how about domains and web hosting totally new to all of that but can work with Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator pretty good.

What the easiest way to create a web page using Adobe products for a newbie?

for starting of web designing i recommend you learn 2 design tools

1. adobe photoshop

2. adobe dreamweaver

later on you can learn stuff like css, flash, asp, php, swift, swish for now this is all you will need.

go to www.pixel2life.com they post tutorials for everything. follow some of the dreamweaver, photoshop and general web design tuturials there.

What the easiest way to create a web page using Adobe products for a newbie?

You%26#039;ll need Adobe dreamweaver too.

http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweave...

This will help you create the HTML pages that contain the images you have made in Adobe Photoshop.

To be honest, you%26#039;re best off buying Adobe Studio 8, then you get Flash Professional and Fireworks too.

Other Replys:I think the best site that can help you in your pursue in web design is to visit www.webdesign.org. They have tons of articles to help your way. One thing to note is that Photoshop and Illustrator are image processing programs. It doesn%26#039;t relate to web pages directly except for the fact that it is used to create images that you can use for websites. Adobe/Macromedia%26#039;s Dreamweaver is the software that you may be more interested in because it is used solely for web development.

If you are a student, you may be able to get good discounts at www.journeyed.com. They offer whole suites available, a bunch of programs packaged in one price and it gets pretty cheap.

Other Replys:Just making web pages I find that Adobe GoLive CS2 is one of the simplest, but most effective programs out there. Not only can you easily and quickly build an entire program from scratch, but it integrates well with Photoshop and Illustrator so that any image you make in those you can put on your page, and any change you make will be automatically updated on your page when you next update. The program also makes CSS very simple which is a much cleaner an nicer way of making pages. Like most web page programs, you can also still edit the underlying HTML and preview from inside the program. It%26#039;s at least worth trying the free trial for. http://www.adobe.com/products/golive/
